Recording a Tennis Match Directly to Laptop

I ran across this old photo from the 2011 Girls High School playoffs.  It shows my old dv Panasonic GS500 camcorder hooked up with a firewire connection  to a Macbook Pro, recording directly to the hard drive and allowing me to watch the match as it’s being recorded.  Pretty cool!  I used this setup for multiple matches on this court.

While I haven’t had a need to do this for quite a while, I thought maybe some other folks would find it interesting.     I also ran an extension cord out there and bypassed the battery, so could have theoretically recorded for as long as my 500 gb hard drive would last.  Of course, two and three terrabyte drives are pretty common now, so  record to your heart’s content!!
