Should I use a remote control?

A lot of people ask, when they first start out recording videos of tennis matches, is if they maybe should have a remote control.  The answer is that  in all probability, you will try it once and never again.  At least not for the purpose of turning the camera off and on after every point.   While it sounds great in theory, in practice you end up with a lot of small files, and sorting through and opening and closing them can be a hassle.

What I find works best to review your tennis video is to have it all in one file and to fast forward between points (assuming you’re not looking to monitor the time between points, as some people like to do for various reasons.)  You can do this using either your computer as the source with whatever software you choose ( I really like Quicktime on my Mac), or burn it to a dvd and use the dvd remote to fast forward.

Happy video’ing!
